While throngs of scooter lovers eagerly await the arrival of the 2020 Yamaha NMax 155 at showrooms across the country, some dealerships have started jacking up the prices of the current NMax—meaning to say the outgoing model—that they still have in stock.
Out of curiosity, we visited some Yamaha showrooms yesterday, only to discover that the old non-ABS and ABS models (main photo) now carry higher price tags: P114,000 (from P109,000) for the non-ABS, and P124,000 (from P119,000) for the ABS.
This makes the outgoing ABS model more expensive than the non-ABS version of the 2020 NMax, which has an SRP of P119,900 set by Yamaha Motor Philippines. The higher-spec 2020 NMax is priced at P134,500.
There are a few noticeable differences between the outgoing and the new NMax 155 models. The former sports a round LCD instrument display, a pair of traditional shock absorbers (no piggyback) at the rear, a smaller windscreen, and a rectangular taillight. The latter, meanwhile, features a keyless entry system and a new rectangular-shaped LCD for both variants, and piggyback shock absorbers for the ABS version.
The engine, a 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with variable valve actuation technology, has been carried over. It produces 15.1hp at 8,000rpm and 19Nm at 6,500rpm.
Sorry, we were a bit off in our earlier report on the 2020 NMax 155—it won’t have a full-color TFT screen and traction control. As a result of the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, it appears these features will only be available on the 2021 model, which is expected to arrive in the Philippines sometime in January next year. That’s according to our sources.
So, would you go for the outgoing NMax or wait for the 2020 version?
