Aston Martin chief executive Ulrich Bez will auction off his own Rapide at this year's annual Bonhams auction and has earmarked the proceeds for charities that aid the victims of the March 11 twin disaster that struck Japan.
"Nobody could have failed to be moved by the recent events in Japan and we at Aston Martin are no exception. After many years' presence in the market and closer ties being forged with the Japanese automotive business in recent projects, we have many friends in the region and we wanted to do something to help," said Bez. "I hope this superb car will raise a substantial amount to help make a difference."
Bez added that the Rapide was only used as he fulfilled his role as chief executive of Aston Martin to represent the British carmaker in events in Europe and in the United Kingdom.
Bez's Rapide bears chassis number "F00039" and is a UK-specification, right-hand drive model built in late 2009. Finished in Concours Blue Paint, the Rapide comes with an Obsidian Black leather interior stitched in Falcon Grey while the dashboard is trimmed in walnut veneer. The Rapide also has heated and cooled front and rear seats, an integrated garage door opener and a rear seat entertainment system incorporating a twin-screen DVD system and infrared headphones.
The 2011 Bonhams Aston Martin Auction opens from 9am on May 21 at the Aston Martin Works Service in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire.
