Audi will start delivery of the more powerful variant of the R8 known as the R8 GT this year and we can only wonder if at least one of the 333 limited-edition units will make it to the Philippines.
Launched at the Paris Motor Show last October, the Audi R8 GT is lighter, faster and more powerful than the V10-equipped R8. Although it will use the same 5.2-liter engine, Audi has boosted its output to 560hp. With exhaustive fine-tuning of the car's innards, the German carmaker has managed to remove 100 kilograms off the car to bring its curb weight down to 1,525 kilograms. This drastic diet improved the R8 GT's power-to-weight ratio to 2.72 kilograms per horsepower, allowing it to accelerate from zero to 100kph in 3.6 seconds before reaching a top speed of 320kph.
Reining in the R8 GT's power are the carbon-fiber ceramic brakes while 19-inch wheels keep the car firmly planted on the tarmac. Carbon-fiber composite components also abound in the R8 GT, like the sideblades, the rear hatch and the fixed rear spoiler that provides the necessary downforce on the rear axle.
The chassis of the standard shell seats is made of glass-fiber-reinforced plastic while a carbon-fiber composite chassis is also available as an option.
