Asian Carmakers Corporation, the exclusive distributor of BMW vehicles in the Philippines, has just brought into the country BMW Motorrad's latest offering--the G650 GS. BMW Motorrad is the motorcycle brand of the German carmaker.
The G650 GS continues the success story of BMW Motorrad's single-cylinder engines. With its lean, wiry off-road stature, the new enduro projects a light and adventurous figure. Due to its relatively low weight and low seat height, the G650 GS presents itself as an attractive entry not only into motorbiking but also into the fascinating world of BMW GS adventure.
Powering the G650 GS is a 652cc liquid-cooled, single cylinder engine that produces 48hp and 60Nm of torque. With its engine's features like electronic fuel injection, twin-spark ignition, high geometrical compression ratio of 11.5:1, and closed-loop catalytic converter, the G650 GS's fuel consumption is a low 3.2 liters for every 100 kilometers (equivalent to 31.25 kilometers per liter at a constant speed of 90kph).
Even at its maximum speed of 170kph, the G650 GS promises to be stable even for a motorcycle that's more at home off-road thanks to its torsionally rigid telescopic front forks and the monoshock-equipped rear solid dual swing arm.
Despite the relatively niche market that BMW's motorcycle brand serves locally, Gil Balderas, the country's BMW Motorrad manager, is confident with the G650 GS’s local sales as he sees 10 to 15 units being sold for this year alone.
No doubt that the P630,000 price tag of the G650 GS plays a big factor in Balderas's forecast as this makes the motorcycle the most affordable model in BMW Motorrad's Philippine lineup.
