It seems BMW can't wait for the Geneva Motor Show to show off its new M range of vehicles as it has revealed the first four models that will make up its line of BMW M Performance Automobiles.

According to BMW, the four models are the M550d xDrive Sedan, the M550d xDrive Touring, the X5 M50d and the X6 M50d, all of which "complement the model family with their clear focus on sports performance combined with unrestricted everyday usability and outstanding efficiency."

The new line of BMW M Performance Automobiles also sees the German carmaker premiering its new 3.0-liter in-line-six CRDi diesel engine that was developed exclusively for this purpose. It has an output of 381hp and 740Nm of torque. Paired to it is an eight-speed automatic transmission with enhanced gearshift dynamics that--together with BMW’s EfficientDynamics technology that includes the Auto Start-Stop function and Eco Pro mode--make all four models impressively economical and fuel-efficient.

Besides the new diesel mill, the M Performance Automobiles also received M-specific tuning of its suspension, bodyshell mounting, engine and transmission mounting, springs and dampers, all standard and optional chassis control systems, and the Servotronic mapping for the hydraulic steering. The end result is that the M Performance Automobiles all display significantly enhanced agility and precision in dynamic driving situations to go with the linear build-up of lateral forces--a familiar sensation with M cars.

All four M Performance Automobiles have an electronically limited top speed of 250kph though the distinction of having the fastest time for a zero-to-100kph sprint goes to the M550d xDrive Sedan with 4.7 seconds (the slowest is the X5 M50d with a time of 5.4 seconds). The M550d xDrive Sedan is also the most fuel-efficient with a manufacturer claimed average fuel consumption of 6.3 liters for every 100km (15.87km per liter). The least fuel-efficient, the X6 M50d, still has a very respectable average fuel consumption of 7.7 liters for every 100km (12.99km per liter).
