Bring out the drag racer in you

May 12, 2009

Your car has a turbo kit, the aerodynamics is perfect, it can practically run on jet fuel, but it moves at a snail's pace on EDSA. So, where do you take it?

SpeedLab Philippines, the place where many cars are reborn with faster speed and improved engineering, puts a twist to its annual track day by bringing the drag experience to motorists in need of a speed fix.

On May 24, SpeedLab will host a fun race called the Drag Experience at the Clark Speedway's drag strip in Clark Field, Pampanga. Participants get a feel of professional drag racing as this is the same venue for the Pagcor Drag Racing Championship.

"We want to promote legal racing by encouraging racing in proper venues and exposing the car enthusiast to the different forms of motorsports without the pressure of intense competition that may discourage them from joining legal races," SpeedLab's Ferman Lao said.

The race is open to select car clubs like the Honda Club Philippines, Ford Club Philippines, Toyota Club, Subaru Club, and their sub-groups.

Participants are required to register in the SpeedLab shop in Quezon City until May 15. A P500 registration fee will cover a thorough technical check by SpeedLab experts to determine whether one's car is fit for drag racing or if there are parts that need repair or replacement prior to the race.

Participants are also required to keep their car in good condition after pre-race inspection to pass the final check by Pagcor Drag Racing Championship director Fil Gulfin in Clark.

SpeedLab's Drag Experience time trials will start at 8 a.m. and the drag race proper starts after lunch.

Interested participants can call SpeedLab at 376-4648 or 376-4651 or send an email to for more details.
