Mitsubishi’s new corporate face shows up on the 2019 ASX

The Mitsubishi ASX’s latest facelift serves to extend the life of a car that’s been around in the UK for 10 years already (in the PH market it’s been around since 2010). A decade might not sound much, but car years are even longer than dog years. So the ASX is basically 130 years old.

Looking good for it, though, no? Its 2019 update has seen it gain the face of the latest Mitsubishi Strada—quite an attractive face, we’d argue—as well as some rufty-tufty looking skid plates and a bunch of new colors. Typical facelift fare, but it does look reasonably different to before.

Inside it’s all pretty predictable—more connectivity, basically. So the media screen gains an inch (it’s now eight inches), and you can have a satnav system with live traffic info. More intriguingly, you can play videos from a USB stick when the vehicle is stopped. Perhaps more helpful is a smartphone app that lets you monitor fuel levels and servicing intervals and suchlike.

You want engines? It has some. Well, one. It’s a 2.0-liter gasoline with the option of five-speed manual or CVT. We suspect neither will help it go toe to toe with genuinely good-to-drive rivals like the Mazda CX-3 and the Hyundai Kona, but we live in hope. After 10 years (and counting), the ASX is clearly doing something right...
