Jeep just unveiled the new Gladiator EcoDiesel in the US, and we have to admit that we’re feeling a bit...jealous.

The popular truck just landed on our shores, and that’s definitely a welcome announcement. However, it arrived with one engine option: a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. The new powertrain that’s now available with the Gladiator in other markets is a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 that’s capable of 260hp and 599Nm of torque.

This is the same engine also powers other models in the Jeep stable. It’s slightly smaller than the gasoline V6, but it’s equally capable and could easily be a more economical option. It’s mated to a TorqueFlite 8HP75 eight-speed automatic transmission that Jeep claims has been calibrated to optimize on- and off-road performance and fuel economy.

“Before we introduced Gladiator, one of the most common questions consumers asked us was, ‘Will you please offer a Jeep truck?’ followed closely by ‘Will it be offered with a diesel engine?’ While we know the answer to the first question, I’m pleased to answer the second with a resounding yes,” said Jeep Brand–North America head Jim Morrison. “Gladiator’s combination of unmatched off-road capability and the vehicle’s fun-to-drive on-road performance, best-ever Gladiator fuel economy, and incredible driving range underwrite the fact that our customers knew exactly what they were asking for.”

No word on pricing yet, but the new diesel-powered Gladiator is expected to go on sale on the third quarter of 2020. What do you think? Do you want Jeep Philippines to make this engine available here in our market?
