Coventry Motors (CMC) recently announced that the all-new Land Rover Defender was set to hit the local market in 2020. At the same launch event, the official distributor of Jaguar Land Rover in the Philippines also unveiled the new 2020 Discovery Sport—and that’s what we’re going to take a look at here.
“We are thrilled to bring the new Discovery Sport, the latest addition to our product portfolio for the Philippine market. The new Discovery Sport pushes the boundaries of the premium compact-SUV sector with an enhanced exterior design and transformed interior, which I’m sure our Filipino customers will love and appreciate,” said CMC president Chris Ward.
As it enters the local automotive scene, the new Disco Sport brings with it sleeker styling from front to back. The front fascia has been given a slight redesign, headlamps included. On the rear side, the taillights have been given a new look as well.
The vehicle’s interior has been updated, too. It still boasts the same premium and luxurious vibe its predecessor had, but it now also features a more modern design. There is a new 10-inch Touch Pro infotainment system that features digital screen controls for climate control and terrain response, and this massive screen is now placed under the A/C vents. The seats, meanwhile, come in perforated grained leather with contrast stitching for the higher trim level.
Under the hood, the new Discovery Sport has ditched the old petrol powerplant for a new 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine. It churns out 148hp at 4,0000rpm, which is significantly less than what the previous powertrain made, but it also generates higher torque at 380Nm from 1,750-2,500rpm. The engine is exclusively mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels.
