MG has been on a tear as of late ever since it came under the umbrella of The Covenant Car Company (TCCCI), the same outfit that distributes Chevrolet in our country. You’ve probably noticed the brand’s strong marketing push on more than one occasion. Now, the China-based British carmaker is entering one of the most jam-packed segments in the country: the subcompact-sedan class.

At the upcoming Cebu Auto Show this month, MG will unveil the MG 5, which is set to compete head-on against juggernauts like the Toyota Vios and the Honda City. The fact that the company is launching the car in Visayas in indicative of the its intention to permeate the market nationwide.

“This is our first time to be part of the Cebu Auto Show, and we are excited to offer an exclusive inaugural look at our newest model—the MG 5 subcompact sedan—to all our valuable patrons in Cebu,” says Atty. Alberto B. Arcilla, president and CEO of TCCCI-MG Philippines. “We acknowledge the robust growth of the automotive sales in Cebu and its surrounding cities as an indicator that, indeed, this is an integral market for MG Philippines. It is with this in mind that we will continue to provide top-notch products and services to all our esteemed clients here in the Visayas.”

No concrete specs or prices have been revealed yet, so we’ll have to wait until the show opens on September 13 to find out more. What we do know, though, is that MG’s after-sales offerings (five-year/100,000km warranty, one year free PMS, and available 24/7 emergency services) will definitely be extended to MG 5 owners. Stay tuned for more details.
