It seems that MG Philippines under The Covenant Car Company (TCCCI) is taking no prisoners as it continues its onslaught on the Philippine market. As we announced earlier, the China-based British carmaker is entering the highly competitive subcompact-sedan segment with its new MG 5. Now, we’ve got the official specs and prices.
First up, the engine, which is mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a CVT. Powering the MG 5 is a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated mill capable of 112hp and 150Nm, with MG claiming the latter figure to be best in class. Upon checking, that torque output trumps those of the Toyota Vios, the Honda City, the Kia Soluto, and the Hyundai Reina. The Volkswagen Santana’s 1.5-liter MPI gasoline produces the same amount of twist, though it generates slightly less power. MG also says the car’s 2,680mm wheelbase is the longest in its class.
Features-wise, the MG 5 gets a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree monitor, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, automatic headlights, hill-start assist, auto brake hold, push-button start, electronic climate control, and a tire-pressure monitoring system. The car also comes with a sunroof and full disc brakes.
As for pricing, the MG 5 starts at P658,888. This base price makes it slightly pricier than the Soluto (starts at P625,000) and the Reina (starts at P648,000), and P3,112 less expensive than the entry-level Vios. You can check out the full list of variants and prices below:
