We got our first glimpse of the prototype of the next-generation Subaru Levorg during the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. Now, a few weeks before the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon, Subaru has announced a new variant of its soon-to-be-revealed wagon: an STI Sport version.
That’s right, the Levorg is the latest Subie to be given the STI treatment. Unfortunately, the Japanese carmaker has yet to unveil further details on the new Levorg STI Sport. We can at least expect a similar powertrain to the 1.8-liter turbocharged, direct-injected boxer engine on the Levorg prototype, if not the exact same one. The carmaker claims that this STI variant “fully draws out the potential of the all-new Levorg,” so that’s something to watch for.
What Subaru has revealed is that two concept models—the BRZ STI and WRX S4 STI—will also be on display alongside the Levorg. In addition to these, a race-car exhibit will be included in the Subaru booth, featuring the BRZ GT300 2019, the WRX STI NBR Challenge 2019, and a WRX STI rally car that competed in the Japan Rally Championships 2019.
We only have to wait a couple more weeks before the Tokyo Auto Salon officially opens its doors. One thing’s for sure: The 10th of January can’t come soon enough for fans of this popular Subaru wagon.
