We really wish Acuras were available here in our market. Every time Honda’s premium division reveals a new model, we just keep feeling like we’re missing out. And now that Acura has revived the Type S badge and officially revealed the 2021 TLX Type S—marking the end of a 13-year hiatus—and there’s that FOMO yet again.

It’s not our first time seeing the car, but it’s our first time seeing the figures, and they sure are impressive. Powering the TLX Type S is an all-new 3.0-liter Type S turbocharged V6 that’s said to be an Acura-exclusive. This beastly powertrain generates 355hp and 479Nm of torque (up 83hp and 100Nm from the ‘regular’ TLX), and it’s officially the most powerful Type S that Acura has ever built.

We’re expecting handling to be equally superb, too, as the sport-tuned 10-speed automatic sends power to all four wheels through Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system that boasts true torque vectoring. As it stands, though, the Type S won’t be available with a stick shift.

Additional performance bits include a double-wishbone front suspension, a Type S-exclusive Sport+ drive mode, and Brembo four-piston front brakes. It sits on 20-inch Shark Gray multi-spoke wheels (lightweight Y-spoke wheels are also available) shod in 255/35 R20 97Y Pirelli all-season tires.

Aesthetics-wise, this basically looks the same as the non-Type S variant. However, it can be had with a new and exclusive Tiger Eye Pearl exterior finish as well as with an Orchid leather-clad interior. Also, standard on the Type S are a host of added niceties such as the 16-way power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation, remote engine start, rain-sensing wipers, and a wireless charging pad. Acura Navigation with 3D view and the full AcuraWatch package also come as standard here.

Acura says the Type S is set to go on sale in May and the SRP starts “in the low $50,000s.” That’s about P2.4 million in local currency, which isn’t too shabby for a luxury performance sedan.

What do you think of the new TLX Type S? Does it make you want Acuras to be sold here in the Philippines, too?
