As with all new vehicles arriving in the ASEAN market, the newly launched Nissan Magnite has undergone testing through the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP). How did it fare, then?
Well, the ASEAN NCAP gave the new subcompact crossover a four-star safety rating. That may not be as impressive as the scores of its stablemates like the Kicks, but that four-star rating’s not bad at all for this small machine.

The Magnite scored 39.02 for adult occupant protection (AOP), 16.31 for child occupant protection, and 15.28 for safety-assist technologies. This adds up to a total score of 70.61, which is good for four stars.
Based on the crash test, the Magnite provided good frontal impact protection overall even with just two airbags. The official report reads: “Data from the dummies showed there was injury risk to the driver’s chest while the front passenger‘s chest and lower legs received adequate protection. Nevertheless, the SUV’s compartment remained stable in the frontal offset test.” Meanwhile, during side-impact collisions, it appears the driver’s chest is well-protected.
A budget-friendly packed with other safety features
Now, keep in mind that the Magnite is relatively a budget-friendly crossover. It still has a respectable rating in the safety tech category, but it doesn’t have what the ASEAN NCAP considers as key features, such as blind-spot monitoring and lane-keep assist. It does come equipped with ABS with EBD, hydraulic brake assist, vehicle dynamic control, traction control, and a 360-degree view monitor, which are still some nifty bonuses.
At the end of the day, this still is a relatively safe car. It didn’t get a perfect five stars, but it’s a decent safety rating nonetheless. Do you think Nissan Philippines should make it happen and bring this vehicle over to our shores?
