Isuzu is having itself a field day at the 2019 Commercial Vehicle Show.

First, the Japanese manufacturer showed off the D-Max XTR prototype that, long story short, looks like a truck wearing a Bane mask. Now, we have the Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 Safir—one of the burliest iterations of the pickup we’ve seen yet.

The Safir is based on the Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 Double Cab and comes in a stunning Sapphire Blue Mica paint finish. Production will be limited to just 10 units, Isuzu says, with each vehicle fitted with a unique numbered badge.

First thought: Those massive fenders really suit the D-Max’s design, though the UK gets that with ‘standard’ Arctic Trucks D-Max units, too. The 17-inch ‘Hyper Dark’ diamond-cut wheels look quite sleek, and Isuzu has also gone ahead and equipped the Safir with a plethora of additional lighting units on the front bumper and roof.

Inside, the pickup has been fitted with a new nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a nine-speaker sound setup with a subwoofer. There’s also a wireless charging pad in the glove compartment, and a camera on the front bumper to keep an eye on blind spots.

No word on engine upgrades, so we’re assuming it runs on the same RZ4E diesel capable of 164hp and 360Nm of torque found in the non-Safir Arctic Trucks D-Max. No mention of any suspension upgrades, either, but Arctic Trucks is known for vehicles with a penchant for driving off the beaten path. Shouldn’t be an issue.

So, how much for this? The Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 Safir carries a £45,000 (around P3 million) price tag. Worth it, or nah?
