Remember when we told you that Aston Martin was rebuilding 19 versions of its gorgeous DB4 GT Zagato with hammers? Well, after 4,500 hours of bashing away, the first example is now finished. And doesn’t it look divine?
The original ’60s DB4 GT Zagato was built to take on Ferrari’s dominant race cars of the time, and the aluminum bodywork applied by Zagato was light, but also painstakingly beautiful.
Like its forefather, the Continuation model will be track-only. However, while the looks and the Rosso Maja red paint may be an exact replica of the original, some of the bits under the skin have been subtly adapted to make it even better to drive.
For instance, under the bonnet there’s a 4.7-liter version of the straight-six engine found in the DB4 GT Continuation—now putting out in excess of 390hp, according to Aston Martin. That power is then sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and limited-slip diff.
Inside there’s lots of lovely black leather, but it’s covering some modern-day carbon-fiber race seats and complements the full FIA-approved roll cage. That wooden steering wheel makes us weak at the knees, though.
Best stay late at work tonight if you want to afford one, as the Continuation will only be sold as part of a twin-pack with the DBS GT Zagato—essentially a DBS Superleggera that’s been rebodied by the Italian coachbuilder. The price for both? A cool £6 million (around P397 million), plus taxes.
The lovely DB4 part of the deal will make its public debut at Aston’s ‘VIP hospitality facility’ at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year, and first deliveries will take place towards the end of 2019. Although for those that make the purchase, there’ll be another year to wait for the DBS.
Still, we reckon we could sit on our hands for that long if this was waiting at the other end...
