This year marks the 60th anniversary of Aston Martin’s one-two finish at Le Mans, and the 70th anniversary of its first race at Goodwood. To that end, the British carmaker is the ‘featured marque’ at this weekend’s Festival of Speed, and it has created six special-edition Vantages in color schemes that honor race cars from its past.
Sixty ‘Vantage Heritage Racing Editions’ will be built, in all, with owners offered the choice of one of the six liveries. All cars will get a new aero kit, too. Made up of a new carbon wing, dive planes, and an extended front splitter, the pack (which is also available on regular Vantages) adds 194kg of downforce at 305kph.
The lime-green Vantage at the very front is supposed to represent Aston’s current World Endurance Championship challenger. Working our way backwards, the white car with the blue/red details is inspired by the AMR1 Group C car from 1989, while the blue/orange car alongside it pays homage to the DBR9 that won its class at Le Mans in 2007 and 2008.
As for the third row, the dark green car is modeled after a DB3S, the silver car a prewar racer called the ‘Razor Blade,’ and the red car after an Aston Martin Ulster that won its class at Le Mans in 1935.
