The BAC Mono, the world\'s first road-legal, single-seater production car, now holds the second-fastest time on the Top Gear test track, setting a time of one minute, 14.3 seconds--just half a second slower than the fastest car on the track, the Pagani Huayra.

\"What a result--a very proud achievement for our homegrown machine versus those of established car manufacturers the world over,\" said BAC managing director Neil Briggs after the Mono set its time on the famed track. \"It is a credit to our suppliers and everyone who has supported this project since its inception.\"

Powered by a 2.3-liter, 285hp engine and weighing just 540kg, the Mono has blistering speed thanks to its power-to-weight ratio of 520hp/ton. By comparison, the Huayra reportedly has a power-to-weight ratio of 519hp/ton.

Also, the BAC Mono is no stranger to Top Gear, having been recognized by the publication in 2011 as \"Stig\'s Car of the Year.\"
