Aftermarket tuning joints like Roush and APG have done quite a bit with the US-Spec Ford Ranger already. Outside of a Ford Performance pack that gives the truck an extra 45hp and 81Nm, though, the American carmaker itself has kept improvements to the vehicle relatively tame. Until now.
This is the Ranger with Ford’s new Tremor Off-Road Package, and the manufacturer claims this is the pickup’s most off-road-capable factory-built version yet. You can get it slapped onto mid- to high-variant Ranger models for an extra $4,290 (a little over P200,000), and for that amount you do get quite a bit.
On top of the truck’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine (270hp and 420Nm of torque), the package gives the Ranger a suspension lift, Fox monotube dampers, and upgraded front and rear springs. The vehicle’s anti-roll bars are also less stiff than the stock version’s, and its traction control system has also been updated to provide better performance on gravel surfaces.
More noticeable add-ons include new 17-inch wheels, 32-inch all-terrain tires, a frame-mounted steel front bash plate, skid plates, a new grille with red accents, two new recovery tow hooks, and new side steps. New seats with ‘Tremor’ stitching and suede inserts are also featured inside the vehicle, and the dash comes equipped with auxiliary switches for controlling lights, winches, and other accessories.
Ford says these changes give the truck better control and comfort off the beaten path. The package increases front suspension travel to 165mm, and the rear’s to 206mm. It also boasts an extra 20mm of ground clearance and an improved 30.9-degree approach angle and a 24.2-degree breakover angle.
We’re digging this, but once again, western markets get all the good stuff. Frankly, we’re feeling a little jealous of the US. Show of hands for anyone else reading this getting the same vibe.
