Honda Brio Amaze 2018

Look who just made a global debut, the all-new Honda Brio Amaze. The mini sedan's second-generation version was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2018 in India, where it shared the stage with the CR-V and the Civic.

Built on an all-new platform, the Brio Amaze is said to have "a more efficient powertrain, spacious interior, outstanding driving dynamics, and the latest safety technologies and convenience features." It was developed at Honda's R&D Asia Pacific in Bangkok.

Its overall design now looks more aggressive, which is rather, um, amusing for a small car. But it will grow on you the more you stare at it and when you compare it to the previous generation. Its grille unmistakably gives it a modern Honda vibe and reminds you of the BR-V's face. The lines lend its 4m body an aerodynamic form. It has a shark fin antenna and a defined trunk, giving it a shapely rear. No engine details are provided, but this will be available in India's market in the second half of this year.

If you've been following this nameplate's history, it was launched in the Philippine market in 2014, with the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 and the Suzuki Swift Dzire as rivals. Under its hood was a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine with 99hp and 127Nm. Despite its compact size, it received a four-star safety rating from ASEAN NCAP, scoring 12.88/16 for adult occupant protection.

It is currently priced between P651,000 to P828,000 in our market. Will it receive a price bump once its new iteration makes it to our country?
