We’re less than two weeks away from the official global debut of the all-new Hummer. We reckon a lot of you out there are definitely as stoked as we are, especially since GMC has put out multiple teasers of the upcoming electric super truck .
Now, more details of the truck’s features have surfaced, and it might get you—especially the gamers out there—even more excited: The next-gen Hummer’s infotainment system will apparently be powered by the Unreal Engine. Yes, the same one powering some of the most popular video games today, such as Fortnite and Rocket League. This use of the engine in the new Hummer marks its first use in a production vehicle’s infotainment system.
“Today, we’re very proud to announce our human-machine interface (HMI) initiative. Our dedicated HMI team of technical artists and engineers is committed to this effort. We’re continually adding new features to benefit more manufacturers,” said Epic Games HMI and embedded systems director Francois Antoine.
“We’re thrilled that General Motors recently announced that the GMC Hummer EV will be the first vehicle to use Unreal Engine in its digital cockpit. This marks a new partnership in building next-generation experiences on embedded systems,” Antoine added.
Neither Epic nor GMC, however, discussed how exactly the engine will be used by the Hummer’s infotainment system. We also don’t how it’ll really look like, although we did get a quick glimpse at it when GMC finally announced the official launch date back in September. Nevertheless, expect something… epic. Ha.
