It looks like a new Korean rivalry is heating up.

Less than 24 hours after Kia Philippines’ launch of the Soluto, Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI) reveals its subcompact sedan: the Reina.

The Reina’s arrival is a relative surprise, as the Korean car manufacturer’s official distributor only teased the model’s release just a couple of days ago. Now, it’s finally official, and the specs and variants are already up on HARI’s website.

It looks like the Reina will be available in two variants, with all units powered by a 1.4-liter MPI engine underneath the hood capable of 94hp at 6,000rpm and 132Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. Yes, those numbers are similar to the Soluto. The base model comes with a five-speed manual transmission, while the top-of-the-line gets a four-speed automatic. Starting price is set at P598,000; there’s no official word yet regarding the cost of the higher-end automatic unit.

Dual airbags come as standard, as does a single-DIN radio with USB connectivity and a conventional 2.8-inch LCD information screen on the instrument cluster. It’s a pretty modest package, but one that will surely appeal to car shoppers on a budget—especially with the starting price at just under the P600,000 mark.

So, this or the Soluto? Let us know in the comments.
