Jaguar has confirmed that the F-Type R will be offered with an all-wheel drivetrain. The confirmation was made following the announcement that the British carmaker has partnered with the Bloodhound SSC world land speed record program to pass "a significant high-speed testing milestone."

At the testing session conducted on the Hakskeen Pan desert in South Africa, the all-wheel-drive F-Type R was fitted with the same radio equipment as the jet- and rocket-powered Bloodhound SSC. It was then driven head-to-head at top speed against a similarly equipped jet flown at 800kph and just 50ft above the ground. According to the Bloodhound SSC program, the combined closing speed of both vehicles at almost 1,100kph enabled the successful test of the communication system that will be used by the ground crew and Bloodhound SSC driver Andy Green. Twelve months from now, the supersonic car will be run for the first time on the Hakskeen Pan desert.

As for the AWD F-Type R, it will supposedly  reach 100kph in just 3.9 seconds before reaching its top speed of 300kph.

"Our target with engineering the all-wheel-drive F-Type was to maintain the engaging rear-drive character that's so important to Jaguar sports cars, yet offer even greater dynamic capability," said Jaguar vehicle line director Ian Hoban. "The result is a controllable, exploitable and blisteringly fast performance car in all weather and road conditions."

The AWD F-Type R coupe is one of a number of performance enhancements to the range that will grow from six to 14 variants in 2015, with the full range supposedly debuting at the LA Auto Show this month.
