The small-SUV segment is rapidly growing, and the latest to join the bandwagon is Jeep with its Renegade.
The Renegade offers two advanced and intelligent 4x4 systems that were designed to deliver "best-in-class off-road capability" that can supposedly transfer up to 100% of the engine's available torque to the ground: the Jeep Active Drive, which is a full-time 4x4 system, and the Jeep Active Drive Low, which is a class-exclusive full-time 4x4 system with a 20:1 crawl ratio.
The Renegade also is the first small SUV to have a disconnecting rear axle and power takeoff unit, enhancing the vehicle's fuel economy. The system, though, instantly engages when 4x4 traction is needed.
For customers who are looking for the best off-road capability with their Renegade, Jeep is offering the Renegade Trailhawk, which has features like a 220mm ride height, skid plates, front and rear tow hooks, up to 205mm wheel articulation, and up to 480mm water-fording capability.
The Renegade is available with one of two My Sky open-air roof systems, with either a manual removable or a power tilt/slide removable feature. Designed for convenience, the honeycomb fiberglass polyurethane roof panels are supposedly lightweight and stow neatly in the rear cargo area.
The Renegade is available with a choice of four MultiAir gasoline or two MultiJet II diesel engine offerings. Paired with the engine is the segment-first nine-speed automatic transmission.
"The all-new 2015 Renegade expands the brand's product portfolio and targets the rapidly expanding small-SUV segment around the globe with benchmark levels of efficiency and driving dynamics, while at the same time delivering best-in-class 4x4 capability that customers expect from Jeep," said Jeep president and chief executive Mike Manley. "The Renegade symbolizes the brand's renowned American design, ingenuity and innovation, marking the Jeep brand’s first entry into the small-SUV segment in more than 100 markets around the globe."
We're definitely looking forward to its arrival in our market. Let's hope CATS Motors brings this in quick.
