Kia Motors Corporation has just revealed its global sales numbers for the first quarter of the year, and some good news came along with it.
The company sold a total of 648,685 vehicles from January to March, which is a 1.9% drop when compared with last year’s figures for the same timeframe, and it is expecting further weakening profitability in the second quarter due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. So, as part of its efforts to bounce back after the global crisis, Kia has announced that it will launch an all-new vehicle in the Indian market come the third quarter of 2020.
The company’s statement reads: “To flexibly cope with the uncertain business environment, Kia Motors plans to enhance its product competitiveness with new model line-up. The company will focus its efforts on sales of SUVs, notably Telluride, Seltos, and recently launched all-new Sorento. Kia will introduce customer-centric marketing and promotion activities tailored to each market, reflecting shifting customer needs in the era of pandemic. The company also plans to introduce an all-new compact SUV to the Indian market in the third quarter to further boost sales momentum.”
We tried to do a bit of digging and we found that some Indian websites are expecting Kia’s new vehicle to compete with the likes of the Suzuki XL6 (known as the XL7 in our market) and the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross. If we had to guess, though, we’d say it could be the new Kia Sonet that was introduced as a compact SUV concept during the 2020 Auto Expo. The Korean carmaker did confirm in that previous story that the said concept would be launched in India by the second half of 2020.
