The ladies of over 30 different countries have spoken: The 2019 Women’s World Car of the Year is the Mazda 3.
The award was first presented in 2010, and currently behind it is a panel of female judges with backgrounds in automotive journalism and racing. It was recently presented at the 2019 Dubai International Motor Show, where accolades for other categories were handed out as well, including the Women’s World Family Car of the Year award which the Mazda 3 also bagged this year.
Dubbed as this year’s “Supreme Winner,” the 3 was judged based on criteria women use when buying a car. The factors included are safety, value for money, aesthetic appearance, storage space, child–friendliness, ease of driving, color, sex appeal, and environmental footprint. Power output and sheer speed aren’t included in the list, in case you were wondering.
Based on the criteria above, the 3 does tick all the right boxes. Its latest iteration which was launched last year and arrived in the Philippines last August features Mazda’s futuristic Kodo design language. It also offers an exceptional driving experience, with its makers putting the jinba ittai philosophy in mind when building the vehicle. In other markets, the 3 is offered with the Skyactiv-G and Skyactiv-D engines, as well as the revolutionary Skyactiv-X engine.
