Mazda has some good news for all the owners of the current-generation Mazda 3 out there: The compact sedan and hatch recently bagged the World Car Design of the Year Award earlier this month, meaning yes, your ride is indeed the looker your eyes make it out to be.

A total of 86 judges from 24 countries cast their ballots this year. This is the second time the brand has won this prestigious award (it took home the trophy in 2016 from the current-generation Mazda MX-5 roadster). Making the win an even sweeter one is the fact that another fellow Mazda, the all-new MX-30 crossover, managed to become a top-three finalist, too.

“To be praised by an elite panel of design icons and automotive journalists in the World Car Awards truly says volume about the Mazda 3’s innate beauty and superior design. And to be recognized as the winner of the 2020 World Car Design of the Year title against equally exquisite cars shows the unanimous praise for Mazda’s 'Car As Art' Design philosophy,” Mazda Philippines CEO Steven Tan said in a statement.

“Ultimately, it is our clients who are the true winners with every Mazda they drive. Because of this award, they can stand high and fully appreciate the choice they made, the same choice that will serve them admirably for the years to come.”

It’s hard to argue with the judges’ choice here. Aesthetically, the Mazda 3—both the sedan and hatchback versions—is one of the sleekest-looking compact cars we’ve seen in a while. Its minimalist aggression is just something that’s hard to miss when you’re driving on the road, and it comes available with the performance to match its style (1.5-liter gaslone engine with 109hp and 146Nm, and a 2.0-liter with 152hp and 200Nm).
