Another Mazda has gone turbo. Following in the footsteps of the CX-9 premium midsize SUV, the new CX-5 has been fitted with a 2.5-liter turbocharged SkyActiv gasoline engine.

The new mill—dubbed the SkyActiv 2.5T—will be offered alongside the rest of the vehicles powertrain lineup in Japan, and is capable of 227hp at 4,250rpm and 420Nm at 2,000rpm. For comparison, the top-of-the-line Philippine-spec gasoline AWD Sport can churn out 187hp and 251Nm.

Diesel units havent gone unnoticed, either. The Japanese carmaker is now offering a six-speed manual transmission with 2.2-liter diesel CX-5 variants—the only model in its segment that offers the option, Mazda says. This will be the case for both AWD and FWD units.

In terms of aesthetics, the highest-grade CX-5—called the Exclusive Mode special edition in Japan—gets an updated interior with nicer materials: nappa leather and real woodgrain trim. Its a relatively minor change, but it further bolsters the crossovers interior as one of the nicest to be in.

Turbocharged Mazda CX-5 units are priced from ¥3,326,400 to ¥3,877,200 (P1.6 to P1.87 million). Will any of this make it here to our market? The 2018 Philippine International Motor Show is coming up, so maybe theres a chance. Do you want the new SkyActiv 2.5T engine option available here?
