Heads-up, Mazda owners. Bermaz Auto Philippines, the Japanese carmaker's official local distributor, has announced a recall of specific Mazda models to have their Takata airbag inflators replaced.
The company says this "preventive safety measure" has been ongoing since December 2016, and that dealerships have already gotten in touch with affected Mazda owners via their last known addresses and contact details. But just in case you haven't received a call, here are the models that are part of the recall:
Model | Model Code | Manufacturing Date | Affected Airbag Inflator |
Mazda 2 | MM7DE | 10/26/2009 - 07/19/2014 | Passenger Side |
Mazda 6 | JM7GG | 03/2002 - 05/2005 | Driver Side |
JM7GY | |||
Mazda 6 | JM7GG | 03/2005 - 03/2006 | Driver and Passenger Side |

According to Bermaz Auto Philippines, a total of 744 Mazdas have had their airbag inflators replaced since this campaign began in 2016.
If your unit is part of Mazda's airbag inflator replacement campaign, we suggest you contact your dealership to schedule it for servicing as soon as possible. The company says the fix will take about an hour and will be completely free of charge. Better to be safe than sorry, right?
