As we reported a week ago, Mercedes-Benz is marking the end of production of its SLS AMG supercar by creating a limited-to-350-units SLS AMG GT Final Edition. Well, if you\'re in the market for a future collectible, the German carmaker has released the details that will go into the limited-edition model.
Numerous carbon-fiber components like the hood, front splitter and rear aerofoil distinctly differentiate the Final Edition from the standard one. More than for aesthetic purposes, the hood has a central air outlet that not only dissipates engine heat but also increases downforce at the front axle. According to the carmaker, this optimized aerodynamic balance not only improves the car\'s potential on racetracks but also enhances its handling. Exclusive AMG forged light-alloy wheels with Dunlop Cup tires round out the Final Edition\'s exterior package.
Inside, the center panels of the Final Edition\'s seats and doors are clad in leather with a diamond pattern design. Contrasting topstitching in silver coordinates perfectly with the black leather upholstery, the silver seatbelts, and the black floor mats edged in silver leather. An \"AMG Final Edition--1 of 350\" badge on the carbon-fiber center console indicates the car\'s exclusivity.
A front mid-mounted 6.3-liter AMG V8 unit sits down low and well to the back of the Final Edition\'s hood. With an output of 591hp and 650Nm through an AMG Speedshift double-clutch seven-speed sports transmission, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 3.7 seconds and reach 201kph in 11.2 seconds before it reaches its electronically limited top speed of 319kph.
\"As the first car to be completely developed by AMG, the SLS AMG marked the beginning of a new era for our company,\" said Mercedes-AMG board chairman Tobias Moers. \"And now, in the form of the SLS AMG GT Final Edition, we are offering our customers one final and extremely attractive variant of our super sports car. With its numerous carbon fiber-look body components, a further optimized aerodynamic balance, and optional Cup tires, this car has the absolute potential to fascinate.\"
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT Final Edition will be available either as a coupe or a roadster when it goes on sale in March 2014.
