MG is stepping up its EV game with two new additions to its UK lineup: the MG5 EV and the HS plug-in hybrid EV (PHEV).
The first of the two, the MG 5 EV, is a fully-electric version of the nameplate we have in our market, albeit in wagon form. It packs a 52.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack that powers its 154hp electric motor spinning the two front wheels. With this setup, the vehicle boasts a range of about 344-444km on one full charge.
The MG5 EV’s battery supports rapid charging and can recharge from zero to 80% in just 50 minutes. Type 2 fast charging, on the other hand, can fully recharge the battery in around eight-and-a-half hours.
The HS PHEV is the hybrid version of the SUV that MG Philippines was supposed to bring over to our shores this year. It’s the first plug-in hybrid in MG’s roster, featuring a 1.5-liter turbopetrol combined with a 121hp electric motor.
This setup is mated to a new 10-speed automatic transmission which enables the car to do 0-60mph (0-97kph) in 6.9sec. The hybrid also boasts an EV-only range of 51km and a whopping 66.24km/L combined fuel consumption. With a Type 2 fast charger, the PHEV can charge from zero to 100% in three hours.
The HS PHEV also comes with a few safety features courtesy of the MG Pilot driver assistance suite. This includes autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot detection, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, lane-change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert.
The MG5 EV starts at £24,495 (about P1.51 million) while the HS PHEV at £24,950 (around P1.54 million). What do you think? Would you like to see these two arrive in our market as well?
