Calling the attention of Mitsubishi Xpander owners in the Philippines: The Japanese car manufacturer has announced a recall of its hot-selling MPV due to issues with the vehicle’s fuel pump.
According to Mitsubishi Motors Philippines (MMPC), this recall applies to all Xpander units purchased between May 2018 and October 22, 2019. The company added that servicing of Xpander units will take approximately an hour and a half, depending on the availability of service bays and replacement fuel pumps.
MMPC is encouraging owners of affected Xpander units to get in touch with their preferred Mitsubishi service center to schedule an appointment.
While the company did not go into detail regarding the fuel-pump issue, it may be similar to what thousands of Xpander units in Vietnam are experiencing: The fuel pump simply ceases to operate, causing the MPV to stall or experience difficulty starting. An investigation by the carmaker found that a resin used in the component may swell and cause the pump to stop rotating. Mitsubishi Vietnam issued a recall for fuel pump replacements in October this year.
If your unit is affected, you best get in touch with your dealership as soon as possible. Drive safe out there.
