Just two weeks after the design sketches of the all-new Datsun vehicle appeared, Nissan has finally launched it as the Datsun Go.

Taking its name from the very first Datsun car launched nearly a century ago--known as the Dat-Go--the Datsun Go is a five-door, front-wheel-drive hatchback that will be powered by a 1.2-liter engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

Despite its compact dimensions, the Go\'s interior is supposedly spacious, thanks to its wide stance and large wheelbase to go with the ample headroom and expanded front-seating configuration.

Datsun models will reportedly be individually developed for different markets, with the Go being the first of several Datsun models that will be launched in 2014 in India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa.

In addition, while Nissan\'s global design center in Japan was responsible for the Datsun Go\'s styling, R&D and engineering development for the vehicle were entrusted to local resources and suppliers \"to ensure the product would suit local market conditions, preferences, tastes and needs,\" on top of making it accessible in terms of price and supply.

\"This is a historic day for Nissan Motor Company and for our customers and partners in some of the world\'s fastest-growing markets,\" said Nissan president and CEO Carlos Ghosn at the car\'s unveiling in India. \"It\'s also an exciting moment for many women and men here in India who today come a step closer to their dream of purchasing a car.\"
