It’s been anything but a wild ride for the Kia Seltos on the way to the Philippines. The Korean car manufacturer announced as early as July 2019 that the vehicle would be coming to our market, and the prices were made known by Kia Philippines about a month ago.
We’ve even driven it in South Korea, with our very own Dinzo Tabamo calling it a potential breakout hit at the time thanks to its confident drive and commendable NVH levels. So yeah, a lot of us knew what to expect with this subcompact crossover’s arrival.
Well, it’s finally here. Kia has launched the Seltos in the Philippines, and units for our market pack a 2.0-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine capable of 147hp at 6,200rpm and 179Nm of torque at 4,500rpm.
The abovementioned mill will come mated to the brand's intelligent variable transmission. Sadly, the 1.6-liter turbocharged motor with an output of 175hp and 265Nm option hasn’t been made available to us. Oh, well.
We’ve also reported the prices already, but here they are again in case you missed them the first time around:
Color options include Starbright Yellow, Mars Orange, Dark Ocean Blue, Gravity Grey, and Iron Grey. You can also get the Seltos in a dual-tone exterior if you wish, but availability depends on the variant you choose. If you buy one before November 30, 2019, you can also avail of a special introductory P50,000 discount.
The 2020 Kia Seltos will compete locally against the likes of the Honda HR-V, the Mazda CX-3, and the Ford EcoSport. How do you think this Korean offering will fare against its more established counterparts? Let us know in the comments.
