Remember the Kia GT Concept, the sports sedan the Korean carmaker unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show? We wondered aloud then if it was ever going into production.
Three years later, according to Edmunds.com, the company confirms the car will actually be made and is scheduled to go on sale "by the end of 2016."
To be simply called as the Kia GT, the production car will retain the four-door fastback sedan form of the concept version. It will also reportedly go up against the likes of the Audi A7, the BMW 5-Series GT and the Porsche Panamera.
The report added that the Kia GT is expected to retain its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and will be powered by a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 gasoline engine for the US market. The same powertrain will also be offered for Europe, although a diesel version will also be made available to the market.
One feature the GT concept has that is supposedly highly unlikely we'll ever see in the production model is the set of suicide doors.
