No, this isn’t an out-of-season April Fool’s joke. Remember when Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus said it was actually turning the 008 into a running, Baja 1000-eligible vehicle? Well, it’s finally taking shape.
Need a refresher? Designers got busy last year putting together a gag for April Fool’s 2020, and, well, the 008 was the result. Apparently, the reception to the render was so positive that the company is now turning it into a working car.
“It started as an April Fool's joke in 2020: working with our designer, we created an 004 body on a Boot chassis. It turned out very cool. Then came a question from our fans: Can you make a vehicle we can build ourselves? And the 008 was born,” the company said on its website.
Anyway, the company has released some renders of the vehicle ahead of its testing phase next month. Look:
Glickenhaus says the 008 was created with self-assembly in mind. It wants fans to be able to buy the parts separately so they can come up with their own “home-built” buggy.
“If you can build an Ikea bookcase you will be able to build the 008.”
You can check out the full list of available parts at the company’s website. Be prepared to do some heavy lifting if you plan to go this route, as all-in-all the entire package will weigh about 3,500lbs.
“The 008 will be raw, mechanical, and a riot to drive.” Exciting stuff. Anyone else excited to see this thing kick up sand in real life?
