The specs of the turbocharged Mazda 3 have been made known—in Mexico.
Oh yeah, we haven’t mentioned it yet, but Mazda Philippines has been teasing a reveal scheduled for July 8, 2020. Coincidentally, it’s the same date other markets have been teasing for the turbocharged 3’s debut. We’re willing to bet it’s the same thing, but it’s very possible the company is just getting in line with the brand’s global marketing campaign. Look:
Anyway, back to the specs—in Mexico. Over there, the 3 can now be had with a 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G Turbo engine capable of 227hp and a whopping 420Nm of torque. Power is delivered to all four wheels and shifting is handled by a six-speed automatic transmission.
For comparison, that’s exactly the same output as the locally available Mazda CX-9. We’ll rephase that for you: The turbocharged 3 has the same output as a midsize SUV. Let that sink in. It also gets blacked-out 18-inch aluminum wheels and a 12-speaker Bose sound system. You can check out more details in the video embedded below. We hope you can understand Spanish, though:
Again, while Mazda Philippines is teasing a reveal on July 8, there’s been no word regarding a local arrival for a turbocharged 3. Feel free to get your hopes up, though. Would you like to see the compact car come with a turbo in our market?
