As if the Shelby Dragon Snake and Hennessey Resurrection weren’t enough, this year’s SEMA show has just given us something even more outrageous. Meet the Speedkore Dodge Charger—an all-wheel drive, four-door sedan with a twin-turbocharged, 6.2-liter V8 engine making 1,525hp at the crank.
Speedkore made waves with its Dodge Demon at last year’s SEMA show. It used the same V8 as this Charger (which started life as a Charger Pursuit police car)—the standard 6.2-liter V8, but modified by Gearhead Fabrications to accept two Precision 6466 ball-bearing billet turbochargers in place of the factory supercharger. Custom Thitek heads, a Boost Leash C02 progressive boost controller and a triple-pump fuel system running 1,700cc injectors were also fitted. It also has two exhausts—the valve-controlled MagnaFlow setup makes use of the exits in the front bumper at the track, but switches to conventional pipes for the road.
The result is 1,525hp at the crank on a “conservative” 26 pounds of boost. Speedkore says it “will continue to tune for performance before and after” SEMA.
Why’s it bothering? Because this isn’t just a show car. It was commissioned by the same chap who asked Speedkore to build the Demon. His 65-year-old brother is “more of a four-door guy”, says the company. And this is his birthday present.
The Charger has one thing the Demon doesn’t—all-wheel drive. A custom transmission sends power to all four Bogart Competition Series wheels, which are shod with street-legal Mickey Thompson ET tires. Therefore it ought to get off the line a bit quicker than the rear-drive Demon. In other words, so fast it cannot be measured.
Much of the body has been reworked in carbon fibre to save weight. And y’know, because it looks cool. The front- and rear-bumpers, bonnet, fender flares and so-on are all made of the stuff.
