A tiny 1.0-liter engine with a meager 67hp and 90Nm of torque isn’t normally something you’d associate with an ‘SUV,’ yet here we are looking at that exact pairing in the form of the Suzuki S-Presso—another mass-market seller from one of the best small car manufacturers in the industry.

We know, it’s an odd combination, but the Indian market isn’t as obsessed with outright power as ours is (the Alto in nearby Pakistan packs a minuscule 660cc mill, after all), and the S-Presso looks like it ticks all the right boxes locally: It has the height to deal with the country’s ill-maintained roads, and Suzuki claims its 1.0-liter K10 engine (mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or the company’s Auto Gear Shift setup) will do up to 21.7km/L.

The design is also something worth applauding. Outside, there’s a butch feel to the S-Presso that’s reminiscent of Europe’s Ignis. The vehicle measures 3,565mm long, up to 1,548mm tall (depending on which variant you get), and 1,520mm wide with a 2,380mm wheelbase. It’s also available in a funky ‘Solid Sizzle Orange’ paint job.

Inside, things get a little more playful. The cabin is dominated by simple dark plastic, but there are a few bits that match the exterior’s bright coloring. This variant also depicts a rounded-out center dash with an Apple CarPlay- and Android Auto-capable touchscreen infotainment system. It’s also available with a decent amount of safety and convenience features, including a high-speed warning alert and reverse parking sensors.

Frankly, all of the above makes for a decent package if you ask us. Would you consider buying a ‘mini SUV’ with an output similar to the Suzuki S-Presso? Let us know in the comments.
