The XL6—Suzuki’s answer to the likes of the Honda BR-V and the Toyota Rush—has been revealed, and it looks more than ready to take on its competition. It was teased for the Indian market earlier this month, and now we finally get a proper look at the vehicle.
First impressions? You can certainly see hints of the Ertiga, its seven-seat MPV sibling, in the design (especially when it comes to the roofline and windows), but the XL6’s exterior looks its own for the most part.
Aggressive headlights with LED daytime running lights, a raised ride, and plenty of black plastic cladding lend it an appearance befitting a mini SUV, and it gets other rugged bits like roof rails and underguards. In terms of size, it’s larger than the Ertiga (4,445mm long, 1,775mm wide, and 1,700mm tall), but the two have the same wheelbase (2,740mm).
The bold chrome crossbar and the Suzuki logo featured prominently on the grille are a nice touch, and the vehicle runs on gloss-black alloy wheels. The XL6 is available in two trims, Zeta and Alpha, both of which share the same look and exterior components.
The interior look and layout are much more familiar—almost identical to that of our market’s Ertiga Black Edition, even. The difference is in the colors and the second row: There’s a pair of captain’s chairs in the back, and the faux-wood trim on the XL6 dashboard gets a grayish finish in contrast to the Ertiga’s traditional dark brown.
The XL6 also comes with more intuitive A/C controls and a smaller seven-inch infotainment touchscreen compared with our market’s Ertiga. Oh, and the Alpha variant features leather seats, too.
Powering the Suzuki XL6 is a 1.5-liter K15B gasoline engine capable of 103hp at 6,000rpm and 138Nm of torque at 4,400rpm—again, identical numbers to the Philippine-spec Ertiga. This will come mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. By the way, this only comes in front-wheel-drive.
So, what do you think of the XL6? Will it fare well versus the Toyota Rush and the Honda BR-V? Suzuki Philippines will have to bring the vehicle in for us to find out.
