Forget the ‘ber months, Christmas is here for Miata fans. Mazda Philippines has just announced the arrival of the MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition in our market. This is a limited-edition Miata created to celebrate three decades of Mazda’s beloved roadster. Only 3,000 units will be produced, with the US getting 500 examples. For local MX-5 fans, 30 units will be up for grabs.
Worldwide there are soft-top and hardtop versions, but we will only get the latter, the RF. Mazda Philippines president and CEO Steven Tan has already stated before that both transmission variants will be available.
To refresh your memory, the MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition has the same 181hp 2.0-liter powertrain as the regular Miata, but it comes in a distinct Racing Orange color, and comes loaded with special accessories. It has 17-inch gunmetal RAYS wheels, two-tone roof, exterior badge saying it’s a limited edition, 30th Anniversary floor mats, and orange stitching on the steering wheel and leather seats.
We do like the Bilstein dampers (MT only), Brembo brake calipers (front) and Nissin brake calipers (rear)—the latter are also done in orange.
If you’re salivating at this point, prepare for a dose of reality—this special roadster isn’t going to be cheap. The MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition costs P2.99 million, and that’s assuming you can get an allotment.
We’re MX-5 fans and we believe all Miatas are special. But the Anniversary Edition has enough of the right touches to make it a collectible.
