The Toyota Alphard isn’t just as plush as its price tag suggests—you’re getting a lot of safety for your money, too.
Toyota’s luxury minivan recently passed Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP) crash testing with flying colors, receiving a triple-plus Advanced Safety Vehicle score (ASV+++). For your information, that’s the highest rating available. The Alphard’s performance was also enough to net it the automotive safety body’s Grand Prix Award for preventive safety performance.
Other Toyotas that underwent testing together with the Alphard include the all-new Camry, Crown, and Corolla Sport hatchback. All vehicles received five-start JNCAP safety ratings in collision safety performance, with the Crown taking home Grand Prix Award in the category.
“Though traffic accident fatalities and casualties have been decreasing year by year, tragic accidents continue to occur. While Toyota aims for the ultimate goal of zero traffic fatalities, we are developing vehicles in consideration of various perspectives to do our utmost in reducing as many traffic accidents as possible,” Toyota said in a statement.
“As part of these efforts, we are advancing and expanding the use of a preventive safety package called Toyota Safety Sense, utilizing connected technology, and developing automated driving. However, at this stage, we realize that there is still much work to be done in technology development toward achieving our ultimate goal.”
