When the all-new Honda Civic came out a few years ago, its i-VTEC Turbo engine caused a pretty big stir, and rightly so. It was no Type R, but it could elicit real excitement behind the wheel. Now, the HR-V has also gotten the turbo treatment in another continent.
Honda has just revealed that its subcompact crossover will now get a 1.5-liter turbo mill in Europe. This engine is a bit more poweful than the Civic’s—it puts out 180hp, plus 240Nm with a six-speed manual or 250Nm when paired with a CVT. Complementing the added oomph is a bespoke damper system that claims to enhance the car’s stability through corners and swerves.
The variant, known as the HR-V Sport, has a few aesthetic tweaks to go along with its more athletic performance. Outside, there’s a redesigned ‘Solid Wing Face’ graphic, a more aggressive rear bumper, and 18-inch alloys. Inside are black-and-dark-red seats paired with black roof lining.
Customer deliveries for the new HR-V Sport are scheduled to start next year. No word yet if the turbo engine will reach HR-Vs in other regions. Do you want to see this variant in the Philippines?
