Updated Honda Civic Type R hits US market

The 2019 Honda Civic Type R—one of the world’s hottest hatchbacks—is now available…in the US market.

Yep, US-spec Type Rs are getting an upgrade. But don’t feel too down in the dumps, because the changes are not as significant as you might think—no bumps in performance, no added aesthetic touches. All the vehicle is getting is a few tweaks to its interior and an attractive new “Sonic Gray Pearl” paint option.

Inside, the Civic Type R receives an update to its entertainment display, which now has physical dials and buttons for a more tactile feel as well as an improved voice-recognition feature. It also gets larger cupholders and a better steering-wheel control layout.

Again, there are no performance upgrades—the car still runs on the same 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine capable of 306hp and 400Nm of torque. The engine is still mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

Larger cupholders? We’re sold! So, how much for the new Honda Civic Type R? The price tag is $36,595, or about P1.9 million—minus taxes, of course. Is a new color and a few interior updates enough to warrant a jump in price? You be the judge.
