The future of cars (hopefully) will be one with zero emissions. Volkswagen is currently working toward that prospect: The German carmaker plans to launch a production version of the SUV pictured here by 2021. In the meantime, though, the vehicle exists only in concept form. Meet the I.D. Roomzz, which has just been unveiled at Auto Shanghai 2019.
Its the latest in VW’s line of I.D. concepts, which includes vehicles like the Buzz, a modern interpretation of the Kombi. Like other electric vehicles, the Roomzz sports a closed-off front fascia where the grille would normally be. It boasts an output of 302hp courtesy of two electric motors, with a range of up to 475km on a single charge. It can go from standstill to 100kph in 6.6sec and reach an electronically regulated top speed of 180kph.
Cool bits include sliding doors and pivoting captain’s chairs for all passengers. And of course, it comes with autonomous driving capabilities.
