Vuhl reveals 1st car simply called 05

Mexico\'s new carmaker has finally revealed its very first product: the Vuhl 05 two-seater, mid-engined sports car.

\"We were determined to create a highly intuitive machine that was both stirringly fast and immensely fun to drive--a car we ourselves would want to own,\" said Vuhl Automotive design director Iker Echeverria. \"We have endeavored to endow it with class-leading ergonomics and a contemporary silhouette of striking proportions, and the aim of uncompromising build quality has underpinned the project since day one.\"

According to Vuhl, the 05\'s monocoque chassis weighs in at a mere 75kg, while the car\'s entire dry weight is only 695kg. Though the car makes extensive use of aluminum, its standard body is made from RTM reinforced plastic, with carbon fiber available as an option. Aerodynamic enhancements to the car include a flat underbody, front and lateral splitters, a rear diffuser and a rear spoiler.

Powering the Vuhl 05 to a top speed of 245kph is a Ford-sourced 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine that puts out 285hp and 420Nm of torque to give it a power-to-weight ratio of 400hp per ton. Its 0-to-100kph sprint is claimed to be 3.7 seconds. Transferring the car\'s power to the Michelin-shod OZ alloy wheels is a six-speed manual gearbox.

The Vuhl 05 will first see action at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next week.

Production of the Vuhl 05 is scheduled to commence in November, with the first deliveries expected in early 2014.
