With six races still to go in the 24-race 2011 World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) season, Chevrolet has already captured the racing series' Manufacturers' title for the second straight year.

As much as 258 points are still at stake but Chevrolet's 304-point lead over BMW was enough for the American carmaker to be awarded the Manufacturers' title while the season is far from over.

As for the Drivers' title, it's a given that it will go to one of Chevrolet's three drivers as fourth placed BMW driver Tom Coronel's 175-point gap to championship leader Yvan Muller means he is mathematically excluded from the fight.

After winning the two races in Valencia last weekend, Muller is closer to winning his third WTCC crown. Teammate Robert Huff, though, is still in the fight as only 16 points separate him from Muller. Third-placed Alain Menu could surprise his teammates, however, should he manage to string together a series of victories in the last six races.

"To conquer the title in the last European round, with three events still to go, is simply fantastic," said Chevrolet Europe Motorsport chief Eric Néve. "I am elated for Chevrolet, for RML and every member of the team. There is a lot of work behind this second title. We took the challenge of designing and building the new 1.6 turbo engine and were the first ones ready with it. Nothing was granted but it did pay off!"
