Construction work on the C-3 (G. Araneta)/Quezon Avenue underpass is ahead of schedule as the Department of Public Works and Highways’ urban road projects and project management offices have reported that work on the interchange is now 70.35 percent completed.

"Traffic gridlock along Quezon City's major highways will soon be reduced as the construction of the depressed underpass along Quezon Avenue crossing C-3 Road (G. Araneta Avenue) in Quezon City will be completed ahead of its scheduled September completion date," said DPWH secretary Rogelio Singson.

Singson added that activities in the at-grade section along G. Araneta Avenue have already been completed and that both directions are now open to traffic.

Ongoing construction activities on the underpass include: roadway excavation; the pouring of Portland cement for the concrete pavement, curb, gutter and island, including the sidewalk at-depressed and at-grade sections; the laying of bituminous asphalt overlay at C-3/Quezon Avenue approaches bound for Santa Mesa, the at-grade section along Santo Domingo, and the partially completed portion along Scout Chuatoco St.; the widening and improvement of Mariblo Bridge; and the installation of a reinforced concrete box culvert.

According to DPWH urban road projects and project management offices director Mariano Alquiza, the early completion of the project "will speed up traffic flow and reduce pollution in the area by lessening gas emissions during traffic gridlock." The completed project is also expected to help decongest traffic along EDSA and major thoroughfares nearby.

To ensure the smooth flow of traffic at the project construction area, the DPWH, in coordination with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, has intensified the continuous implementation of its traffic management plan by deploying traffic enforcers in three shift schedules particularly at the intersection of Quezon Avenue and Araneta Avenue.
