The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is making sure help is available to motorists during Holy Week. DPWH Sec. Rogelio Singson has directed all field units to reactivate the department's Lakbay Alalay Program to ensure the smooth travel of motorists during this busy season.

From 6am on March 31 to 12pm on April 10, composite teams of DPWH personnel will be joined by officials from the Land Transportation Office and the Philippine National Police, and by representatives from local government units to provide assistance to motorists along national roads.

Singson has also directed his department to expedite necessary road maintenance and improvement activities like the installation of legible informational and directional signs, and reflectorized pavement markings along national roads for the benefit of motorists.

With the DPWH taking advantage of the summer season to enact its various road construction works, Singson has also directed all of the department's regional directors and district engineers to ensure proper signages and warning signs are provided in all areas with road improvement projects.

"Once our rehabilitation works on national roads are completed, the situation will certainly improve," Singson said.

The DPWH is also advising motorists to take alternate routes to bypass traffic-congested areas and road sections where constructions are ongoing. Field offices of the department are also ordered to provide adequate traffic advisories specifying entry and exit points with the corresponding distances, and to strictly remove obstructions along national roads and bridges.
