Female bus drivers to start next week

TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - Female bus drivers to take to the road soon

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has trained 31 ladies who will start driving public utility buses starting next week.

The female drivers are said to have an edge over other bus drivers since they all underwent formal training, ABS-CBNNews.com reported. All of them have also vowed to be more disciplined drivers and to ensure the safety of all passengers.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority thought of fielding female bus drivers following the spate of road accidents in the metropolis, particularly along Commonwealth Avenue, which has been notoriously dubbed as "a killer highway."

The training doesn't stop with the female bus drivers as TESDA chief Joel Villanueva said the agency intends to train all bus drivers by 2013 in the hope of minimizing road accidents.

Aside from improving road safety, training with TESDA also opens opportunities for drivers to get hired in other countries.
